NFR Bulletin w/c 16th Jan 2017

Hi All

The long wait is nearly over as Friday sees the inaugural NFR Awards evening. We hope you're all looking forward to it as much as we are and a big thanks to Jo, Georgia and the rest of the team for all the hard work planning it. See you from 6.30 onwards at Elmers Court for what promises to be a memorable evening.

The Hants XC League match due to have taken place in Reading on Saturday had to be postponed due to travellers occupying Prospect Park and has now been re arranged for Saturday 4th March. Also, the next fixture on 11th Feb has now had a change of venue and will take place at Staunton Country Park in Havant.

Stubbington 10k

Just 4 NFRs took on this notoriously fast 10k which always sells out well in advance. Alastair Pickburn was first home in 28th 35.15 followed by Matt Cafferky 466th 45.45, Catherine Pascoe 874th 53.16 and Julian Smith 985th 55.34

Dirty Devil Stampede

With a course designed for putting tanks through their tracks, 4 brave souls travelled down to Bovington for a muddy challenge yesterday.

In the 5k, Lisa Pitcaithley, Chrisse Scott and Liz Cunliffe finished together with a time of 48.04/5

The 10k only drew one NFR entrant with Carly Cavolick coming home in 125th place with a time of 1.08.35

NFR Awards Evening

Here's a message from Jo Jenkins regarding Friday's Awards evening

"The plan is drinks at 6.30, we are to be seated for dinner at 7, in hope of being served from 7.15, Awards will take place in the bar area from around 8.45, there will be a few tables and chairs, but not enough for all so if you dont wish to stand bring your dining chair through !!! It is also at this time that tea and coffee will be served. The disco is held back in the dining area from 9.45. We also have access to the lounge should any one want a comfy relax !!! We have taken advice from Elmers and have table planned, it was suggested that 100 people turning up and no plan could cause chaos!! we have worked hard to put people in to groups that they would normally run-chat with. As you arrive go through the main entrance and our venue is on the right, you will find some where to put your coats as you enter along with a seating plan and complimentary glass of vino, you will enter in to the bar area and will be called through to dining area at around 7pm. Any questions then do give me a shout xx look forward to hopefully the first of many annual award evenings"

Running With Dogs

This can be an emotive issue and it's something that we have discussed at committee level numerous times over the last year. The official standpoint from England Athletics is that they are moving to ban dogs from attending club runs on the grounds of safety and this will come into force sometime within the near future. We realise that we are in a pretty unique position as most of our running from Wilverley doesn't involve any roadwork and as such the risk to motorists, cyclists etc is negligible. Unfortunately, there have been a couple of incidents in recent years where runners have been tripped by dogs running with a group however these are outweighed heavily by the number of times an incident has occurred with a dog not connected to the club. Most of the dogs that run with the club have been running with their owners for years and as such, are well behaved and cause no problem. However, we do understand that some members are not happy to have a dog accompanying their group. As a committee, we can't supply any definitive answer except to ask for a "common sense" approach. Once the EA mandate comes in, that will mean that there will be no insurance cover supplied to dog owners should an incident occur and someone subsequently claims for injuries, loss of earnings etc. so the liability will fall solely with the dog owner. However, we appreciate that in this beautiful part of the world that we live in, many members love bringing their dogs along with them to club runs and we're not looking to discourage well behaved dogs and owners from attending ! So, could we ask that dog owners be mindful of the other runners in their group, putting their dog on a lead or running at the back of a group if asked or if you know that your dog can be boisterous. And if anyone has a concern with a dog running with their group, please politely talk to the owner about it, asking them to run at the back of the group if necessary. The forest is public land for all of us to share and we're extremely lucky to be able to run in such a wonderful place and as such, we want all of you to enjoy your running with the club.

Our CC6 at Wilverley

On Sunday 12th March, ourselves and Lymington Tri Club host a CC6 race at Wilverley starting at 9.30. To enable the event to be a success, we're asking for your help to setup, marshall and take down the course. Also, our reputation as the best cake bakers of the CC6 series needs to be upheld so get planning those recipes now !. If you can help either check out the Facebook event page or reply to this email and I'll add you to the list. Many thanks in anticipation.
